Food with a Local Touch

Open Daily from 7am - 3pm (Closed Tuesdays)

As I walk through the streets of Puerto Morelos in the morning, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee fills the air, frequently guiding me to Local Coffee + Shop. This quaint breakfast restaurant, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy main strip, is a hidden gem that I had the pleasure of discovering on one of my very first trips to PM a few years ago. Since then it is a frequent stop where I have held meetings and brought friends visiting from Detroit.

The cozy atmosphere of the restaurant makes me feel right at home, super friendly staff and even better people watching from the corner of Niño Héroes and Adolfo López Mateos. My only challenge is which of their amazing breakfasts and coffees should I have today?

One of my favorites is their unique take on avocado toast, multigrain bread topped with perfectly poached eggs, sprinkle of feta cheese, and a touch of red pepper oil. The combination of the creamy avocado and the savory feta is the perfect combo, and the runny egg yolk added an extra layer of richness to the dish. They also have a version with mango! I love to share it with a friend so I can also get a fruit bowl or one of their signature fresh juices.

If you’re looking for a more traditional Mexican breakfast dish, I recommend the Local Coffee chilaquiles verdes, made with tortilla chips smothered in a tangy green salsa and topped with queso fresco and a dollop of sour cream. The flavors are bold and authentic, and the texture of the crispy tortilla chips combined with the creamy toppings are delicioso!

If you prefer a sweeter dish, the MANGO COCONUT FRENCH TOAST is A-MAZ-ING and incredibly unique: Multigrain bread dipped in a rich coconut milk egg batter, served with mango toasted coconut, whipped cream and honey.

To accompany my meal, I almost always order a Local Coffee latte made with locally sourced coffee beans, and I was blown away by the depth of flavor and smoothness of the drink. It is the perfect complement to my hearty breakfast and helped me power through the rest of my day of as a digital nomad working in Puerto Morelos. You also can’t go wrong with their café americano, it always hits the spot!

The ambiance of Local Coffee + Shop lends itself to chatting with locals, tourists, and expats alike, I can’t help but feel grateful for living just around the corner from this truly “local” coffee shop. The menu items are unique and delicious, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. I always leave feeling satisfied, energized, and excited to come back for more. If you’re looking for a delicious breakfast experience in Puerto Morelos, Local Coffee + Shop is a must-visit destination.
